DG Derek Margerison’s Biography

Derek was born in Newcastle, England, several decades ago.  He and his brother Alan migrated with their parents to Australia in 1952 and settled in Wollongong.

After high school Derek undertook an apprenticeship in the printing industry.  Six years after completing his apprenticeship he commenced a career in industrial relations for the remainder of his working life.

Derek has been married to Barbara for 44 years.  They have two children, Peter and Belinda, and two granddaughters, Amelia and Valentina.

He has a long history of involvement in community affairs which includes school P&Cs, scouting and neighbour watch.  He is a Foundation Member of the AFL’s Greater Western Sydney Giants.

Derek joined the Kings Langley Lions Club in 2001 and held most Board positions and he is still a proud member of that Club.  He was a Zone Chairperson on five occasions .

He was elected 2VDG in 2015, 1VDG in 2016 and District Governor Elect in 2017.

Since his election to 2VDG position Derek has visited many Club activities and projects in addition Club Dinner Meetings.

His goals for the year are –

Strengthen Clubs

Establish new Clubs and Club Branches

Increase multiple Club projects and activities

Increase the Clubs’ contributions to Lions foundations such as LCIF

Encourage Clubs to publicise their projects and activities

Derek’s theme for 2018-2019 is “Working Together, Hands On, WE SERVE”.
